Ceremonial Cacao cup "MoonChild"

from €40.00

A very special organic looking cup, made thinking about ceremonial cacao, but really could be used all sort of drinks or even snacks or small desserts.

Handmade on pottery wheel by Laima from her studio in rural Latvia. The cozy shape in combination with the pure white and textured surface create a unique design object.

Treasure the beauty of imperfection an embody the aesthetic principles of wabi-sabi.

Glazed with a white matte glaze inside out, inlayed with crater lava glaze- pleasant to touch (surface is not rough).

Artfully handcrafted on the pottery wheel from high-fired stoneware. Can be cleaned in the dishwasher.

Pressed dimple on the side for the finger to rest in.

Price for single item.

Approximate size:

250ml (d=10cm, h=7cm) (unglazed bottom, colour more cold white)

300-3500ml (fully glazed, unglazed rim, colour more warm white)

W A B I - S A B I

"Wabi-sabi is the quintessential Japanese aesthetic.
It is a beauty of things imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete.
It is a beauty of things modest and humble.
It is a beauty of things unconventional.
It is also two separate words, with related but different meanings.

"Wabi" is the kind of perfect beauty that is seemingly-paradoxically caused by just the right kind of imperfection,
such as an asymmetry in a ceramic bowl which reflects the handmade craftsmanship,
as opposed to another bowl which is perfect, but soul-less.

"Sabi" is the kind of beauty that can come only with age,
such as the patina on a very old bronze statue."
