glaze - White Lichen
Beautiful white crawl glaze.
Recommended for high-fired stoneware and porcelain.
!!! For best results we recommend firing range 1250-1280 C
Lead-free and cadmium-free. However not recommended for food surfaces due to the fact that it will crawl into blobs leaving empty spots with no glaze coverage that will be difficult to clean. May be used on top of another (for example darker glaze) that will create spotted leopard look and possibly create even surface that can be also food -safe.
Sold in powder form only.
Mixing guidelines: Add water proportionally 1:1 to begin with, after sieving adjust with little extra water as needed to achieve the desired thickness. Generally 500g (1.1 lb) of glaze makes about 800ml (27oz) of liquid glaze.
Add water, put through a sieve and good to go. YOU MUST MIX THE WHOLE dry mix into water (as we mix glaze by hand it is not uniform yet, if you take just half in water the ingredients will not be even!)
We recommend to apply with brush to control the thickness of the glaze. It will fall of (before or during firing) if applied too thickly! The cracks develop as the glaze dries so you can control the thickness in this way. Best results over dark body stoneware. Can be applied on vertical surface like vases too, but extra care should be taken not to have the pieces fall off. I suggest you try first on shallow bowl (like pictured here, to get the idea how this crawling works and not to destroy your kiln shelves in the process!)
It can be layered over another darker glaze too, which makes a nice spotted leopard look ;)
*Pictured on Sibelco Betongrau 2002 with iron oxide under wash.
*WARNING!
Do not ingest.
Use gloves when mixing and applying product. Keep away from eyes. If product gets into eyes rinse thoroughly with water. Avoid dust and dry glaze build up from evaporation of solution. Wash with a wet cloth only and do not sweep or dust off. Ensure adequate ventilation during firing.
